Then the capacity blue light should slowly reflects the current capacity of the Drobo Gen2.

  • AT the very last stage… after the 10th Blue Led light … all Drive Bays should light up GREEN.
  • With the drives inserted… the boot sequence from what I can see DID completes.
  • This leads me to believe that the bay is shot and I need to buy a new one, and hope that the disk pack can transfer successfuly to the Gen 3. It never does show up in the drobo dashboard and shortly after the amber standby light turns on. It goes through the boot sequence and has the top light red as I was expecting. I also (since posting this) removed all the drives from the bay. At no point (aside from all turning red on the first step) do the drive indicator lights turn on. After maybe 15 seconds or so (I didn’t time it) all the lights go out and the amber standby indicator turns on. Here is where it differs:Īfter the 10 blue lights turn on, the left 5 blue lights turn on (as if indicating storage capacity) and the green power light flashes. Here is what happens with the lights:Īccording to this article: steps 1 through 4 happen correctly. Oh, I meant to copy what I posted on the support ticket, but forgot to do so. (Mostly likely hardware itself OK, Disk Pack might have some issue.) If previously without Disk Pack boots OK… then now with Disk Pack not able to boot complete and mount the volume… (Hardware unit ok)īoot failed… (Since without Disk Pack, boot failed. there maybe an issue with the Disk Pack that is causing the unit not booting.īoots ok, detects by Dashboard etc. If with drives, Drobo Gen2 is not booting properly, then we can say. Power ON the Drobo Gen2 again and this time is with all drives. Make sure they all seated properly in the bays. With the POWER OFF… insert all the drives back into the Drobo Gen2. So NOW with the above, the Drobo Gen2 (empty without drives) is booting up properly and Dashboard detecting it… Seems like the hardware itself is ok. Inserting any existing drive(s) into a powered ON Drobo will wipe OUT all existing data… ***Do NOT insert your existing drive(s) into the Drobo Gen2. Which is indicated by the TOP MOST Drive Bay lighting up RED.

With the Drobo Gen2 unit without any drives, connect it to the PC using USB or what connect you have been using. Make sure that there is NO power to the unit and remove all the Drives and put them aside. Power Down and switch OFF the Drobo Gen2. So in this case, further checks have to be done to see if it is a hardware issue or a Disk Pack issue that is causing the in-complete boot. If it is (b) or ©… that means PSU should be working and supplying power to the Drobo. In this case, finding a replacement PSU should resolve the issue. That s why Drobo is not booting up at all. If there a little Green light on the power brick? Maybe the power brick is faulty. If (a) - Do check the PSU (Power Supply Unit) or the power brick adaptor. Such as Blue Led lights flashing from Left to Right at the bottom?ī) The Boot up stuck at ALL drives bays RED or YELLOW.Ĭ) All drive bays light up RED or Yellow then go away… booting Blue lights flashing one by one from the Left to Right… but later a rebooting loop occurs… repeat all over again and again. With all the drives in the Gen2, power ON the Drobo.Ī) No lights at all appearing on all the Drive Bays, and there is NO booting light Sequences.I GUESS I would be fine without it for a few days. If I buy a new one, what’s to say my data is even in a good state and can be used by the unit? What is wrong with my current one? What do I do from here? It’s a pretty critical part of my infrastructure.* Buy a new one.”* *(my summary of their words)

They respond “Sorry, that product is old. The lights next to the hard drives are never coming on. I notice that the boot process isn’t completing. Just now I come down to check on it to find that the Drobo is in standby mode. Data protection still ongoing, so I let it do its thing. Several hours later, the drive is no longer mounted and Drobo dashboard can’t see it. Almost 72 hours ago, my drobo went into disk protection mode and shortly thereafter notified me that a hard drive failed.
